Commercial pressure washers have to earn their keep. They face daily use, often in harsh conditions, and they need to start every time you pull the cord. I've tested commercial-grade machines on construction sites, fleet maintenance yards, farm equipment, and industrial facilities ¡ª the environments where downtime literally costs money.

Commercial units start around $700 and go up to $3000+, with the price difference driven by pump quality (triplex vs axial), engine (Honda GX vs GC or Chinese engines), and frame construction (welded steel tube vs stamped sheet metal). A true commercial machine should last 3-5 years of daily use with proper maintenance.

The biggest mistake I see contractors make is buying a "prosumer" grade unit (basically a consumer unit with commercial marketing) and expecting it to survive daily use. If you're running a pressure washing business, invest in a unit with a serviceable triplex pump and a Honda GX series engine. It costs more upfront but costs less per hour of operation over its lifetime.

Commercial vs Consumer: Real Differences

Commercial units have replaceable pump oil seals, stainless steel valves, bolt-on frames (not welded stamped steel), and engines with cast iron sleeves. Consumer units have sealed pumps that must be replaced entirely, plastic shrouds, and thinner frames. A commercial pump can be rebuilt for $50-100; replacing a consumer pump often costs as much as a new machine.
